James Gunn‘s DC Universe reboot, “Superman,” is making a serious play for awards season recognition.

In a surprise twist, Variety has learned exclusively that Warner Bros. has submitted the summer blockbuster into the drama categories at the Golden Globes, signaling the filmmaker’s intention to position the iconic superhero as more than just escapist entertainment.
