If you ever thought the Suzuki Jimny lacked personality—which it doesn’t—there’s an alternative that might pique your interest. Japanese tuner Garage Ill (spelled "ill") has a body kit that gives the cute little Jimny a whole lot of visual character. Not that it needed it, but the tuner managed to spin the Jimny into what looks like a baby Land Cruiser FJ.

Surprisingly, the build draws inspiration not from the baby FJ but from a not-so-shouty and honest work truck, the Toyota Hilux Champ. You may not have seen the compact pickup, but it made headlines just as the new baby Land Cruiser broke cover. Toyota used the Hilux’s underpinnings as the basis for its new compact SUV.

In keeping with the design inspiration, the shop appropriately named its latest creation the CH:AMP—written exactly as is, perhaps for legal reasons. It’s apparent that the tuner doesn’t want any kind of standoff with Toyota’s legal department.

Anyway, as part of the build, Suzuki’s compact off-roader gets an entirely new face with rectangular headlights, a boxy grille, and a redesigned two-piece front bumper. The SUV also sits lower thanks to a set of 1.5-inch lowering springs. Towards the sides, you’ll notice new wheels, chunky all-terrain tires, wider fenders, and an all-black roof, contrasting the bright yellow paintwork.

Budget Makeover: New Face, New Cabin

Things look really smart on the inside with Cognac Brown seat covers complemented by braided inserts. If you prefer something plain, the tuner also offers Charcoal Black as an option. By allowing customers to select each part individually, the tuner lets them experiment and make their build as unique as possible.

In terms of price, $2,300 gets you the base kit that sports halogen headlights. You’ll have to spend $200 more to get the LEDs. Tick all the boxes, and you’re looking at an invoice of over $4,000. Included in the roster are Baja-style fog lights, a new rear bumper, dummy towing hooks (real ones are also available), and a sporty muffler arrangement.

It’s worth noting that paint and installation costs are charged separately. For more details, head over to their website.
