We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. COURTING – “ROLLBACK FREESTYLE” (ft. RXK NEPHEW)
UK indie rock band Courting teamed up with the unpigeonholable rapper RXK Nephew for an under-two-minute industrial noise-rap song. Who saw this coming?!

FLORENCE + THE MACHINE – “ONE OF THE GREATS”
Florence + The Machine’s anticipated new album Everybody Scream is out on Halloween, and she’s given us a second preview with “One of the Greats.” She says:
I don’t really know how to explain myself with this one, it was sort of a long poem about the cost of greatness. Who gets to decide what that is? Why do I even want it? Why am I never satisfied?
I feel like I die a little bit every time I make a record, and kind of literally nearly died on the last tour. Yet I always dig myself up to try again, always trying to please that one person who doesn’t like it, or finally feel like I made something perfect and I can rest.
Early in my career, I was consistently ridiculed and derided for the bigness of my expression. I was thrust into the spotlight but also told again and again I didn’t deserve it, or that because it wasn’t to their taste it wasn’t good. So maybe this is a 15-year outpouring of frustration. But also, a lot of the lines I just left in because I thought they were funny.
Me and Bowen from IDLES wrote it in one take. He played the guitar and I just sang it straight from the page. We meant to re-record it but the first take just had this amazing energy.
Then Aaron Dessner helped us take it to a truly transcendent place. I wanted it to feel like you were disintegrating into nothing at the end. Which is sometimes what the creative process feels to me. Death and resurrection over and over.

PREWN – “MY SIDE”
“‘My Side’ is a song about living in a country where the systems in place are bloated with abundance, yet we’re more isolated from community and connection to environment and each other than ever,” Prewn says of the latest single off her anticipated new album System. “Through this epidemic of over-consumption we lose our peace along with our compassion.”

INDIGO DE SOUZA & MOTHÉ – “SERIOUS”
Ahead of her fall tour, Indigo De Souza has shared a new collaborative single with her soon-to-be tourmate Mothé. “‘Serious’ is a reflection on overthinking— and trying not to!,” Indigo says. “Reminders to myself, and from people I love, to loosen the tight grip I’m often holding internally. Life is a heavy experience, so it’s important to make time for letting loose! This song is about that moment when you decide you don’t care who’s watching, you’re just going to dance with your whole heart. It’s about trusting joy. I absolutely loved singing this song with my friend Mothé. They have such a beautiful voice and they are so fun to write with. I am grateful to have made this song with them, and really excited to hopefully sing it a few times on the tour we have coming up!”

STROIK – “WASH AND REPEAT”
Bedroom pop artist Drew Stroik was tragically killed in a highway car crash while on tour in 2022. His posthumous debut album, 65th and York, is finally getting a release on October 24 via Unfiltered Records / Caveman Arts Society. The album was finished with Ivy’s Andy Chase and Bruce Driscoll. “When Drew passed away in 2022, this song and video risked being lost to time on a hard drive,” says Driscoll. “Andy and I couldn’t let that happen. Drew was a layered, insanely talented guy who sometimes had his dark moments, but this track is nothing but joy to me. We recorded it in the winter of 2010 on minimal gear in my tiny studio apartment on the Upper East Side of New York. He needed a video for the release, so with only the equipment I had at the time we went down the street to my laundromat with my friend Leah and filmed it. People were coming in to wash their clothes while we shot and were totally unfazed, which only added to its charm. Drew could be shy, but I think the result reflects the music perfectly – it feels like something you’d stumble across on MTV in the 1990s. This has always been one of my favorite songs of his, and I’m grateful people will finally get to experience it.”

BARTEES STRANGE – “DCWDTTY”
Bartees Strange says his new single is “not a cover, but a reference to one of my favorite songs from maybe my favorite DC band Smart Went Crazy,” adding, “I lived in DC for a long time, this song is about how it changed my life for better and worse.” It was produced by Jack Antonoff, and it’s from All Things Go’s new 10 Years charity compilation, which benefits The Ally Coalition.

SKORTS – “BURDEN”
NYC band Skorts announced their debut LP, Incompletement, due out October 31. Lead guitarist Char Smith says that new single “Burden” is “A song from the VERY early days that fell out of our live rotation for a while and almost got completely swept under the rug but our producer, Teddy O’Mara, wanted to bring it back. It was one of the two original demos we released to SoundCloud (‘Cyclops Girlfriend’ being the other). There is a video of us playing it in its original form somewhere but the groove and structure really got refined in the studio. Alli recorded the main guitar riff on my ‘69 Gibson SG Special.”

PYNCH – “MICROWAVE RHAPSODY”
“Microwave Rhapsody is all about existentialism and the meaning of life,” says Pynch frontman Spencer Enoch of his band’s new single. “It’s Philosophical but also euphoric – a sort of lo-fi trip filled with shimmering synths, krautrock drums, and bursts of distortion. It asks some of the album’s central questions and is one of the most expansive songs we’ve ever written. I really love the lyrics and how everyone in the band has their moment to shine. It felt like the perfect song to share ahead of the album and we can’t wait for everyone to hear how all of the songs work together.” New album Beautiful Noise is out next week.
