Charli XCX conquered pop in 2024 and will have a big year in film in 2026: she’s staring in and conceived the story for The Moment, a mockumentary about a pop star gearing up for her first tour that is directed by Aidan Zamiri and also stars Alexander Skarsgård, Rosanna Arquette, Kate Berlant, Jamie Demetriou and more. She’s also part of the cast of new thriller The Gallerist, that stars Natalie Portman and Jenna Ortega and is set at Miami’s Art Basel, and she’s reportedly set to star in Dakota Johnson’s directorial debut, A Tree Is Blue.
The most high-profile 2026 film Charli is involved with is the new adaptation of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights that is written and directed by Emerald Fennell (Saltburn, A Promising Young Woman). Charli is writing the songs for it and it will also double as her new album. The film stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi and will be out on Valentines Day. The teaser trailer, released a couple months ago, has a tiny snippet of one of Charli’s songs (watch below), but we’re going to get the official first single on Monday (11/10).
The single is titled “House” and features The Velvet Underground co-founder John Cale. Charli announced the song was coming on social media, with a clip from the video which has Cale intoning “Can I speak to you privately for a moment” over ominous strings, while the video has her dressed in period costume, laying face down on the floor looking at a raven while someone is either caressing her head or holding her down. It’s definitely an enticing 10 seconds and you can watch below.
Charli was also reportedly shooting a video this week in Brooklyn at the old Williamsburgh Savings Bank which is now an events space. Seems like a tight turnaround for a video that’s out Monday, but the timing feels right — John Cale played Lincoln Center on Saturday. We shall see.
