A new study of U.S. college students tracked everyday meals over four weeks. The results showed that students ate more in groups and in formal dining locations, which may provide an explanation for why so many students slowly gain weight once they start college.

The work was conducted at [George Mason University](http://George Mason University | A Top 50 Public R1 Research University | George Mason University https://www.gmu.edu/) in Fairfax, Virginia. In dining halls, students took in about 156 extra calories compared with eating at home.
