Despite winds up to strong gale and heavy rain, we went out searching for wheatears today, after yesterday’s uplifting records. And the efforts were rewarded with another mega: a Swainsons Thrush (brunkinnskogtrost)!
The bird was feeding in the kelp-beds north on the island, and it was fantastic to see this usually shy bird out in the open on relatively close range.
This is the first record of this North-American species for Røst (after an unidentified wood thrush back in 2004), and the eight’ record for Norway.
Just hours later, another rarity was found at Kvalvåg: a Pacific Golden Plover (sibirlo). This was the 14th record for Nordland County – all of them from Røst!
A Yellow-browed Warbler was also seen today.
