LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Organizations in the capital city are teaming up to support impacted residents as a result of the federal freeze on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
In a release, officials said nearly 3,300 Pulaski County residents as well as 4,598 furloughed government officials are impacted by the freeze.
The partnership includes the city of Little Rock, Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, Little Rock School District and Little Rock Food Commission who aim to tackle food insecurity in the state.
“Food insecurity is one of the biggest challenges facing Arkansas, with more than 70,000 people in Pulaski County regularly experiencing it,” Mayor Frank Scott, Jr. said. “Through partnerships with organizations like the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance and local businesses, we are committed to assisting as many individuals as possible and closing the gap when federal support is paused.”
Students in the Little Rock School District that are identified as “affected” will receive grocery gift cards donated by Edwards Food Giant. Local restaurant Hill Station also donated a gift card to support impacted residents
