Story

I made this project for an assignment in one of my classes in my senior year of high-school. I chose to make this project because I was given a Tv that didn’t have a remote and would always have to get up and go push the buttons on the back of the tv. I tried finding a remote for my tv but never could so for years I have had to get up and push the buttons. But no longer because with The Control-inator I can do it all from my phone without the need to move a finger. I started out with connecting some servos to a photon microcontroller. I then wrote code that used an array to keep track of the inputs on my tv and allow the servos to know how many times they need to push the input button. The code would also wait until it hears certain events called and when they do get called it would move the servos to complete the command. I also used the shortcuts app on my iphone which made it so that when Siri heard certain voice commands it would use the webhook for the photon and then call certain functions that would either turn on/off the tv or change the input on the tv. I then installed the servos with a lot of tape and plugged the photon microcontroller to and outlet near the tv and it works. I can now control my tv to an extent from my phone. Though the funny thing is that I actually found where it says the make and model on my tv and now can buy a remote for my specific tv which kinda makes this project not worth it if it wasn’t for me being able to control the tv with voice commands which I think is a lot cooler than using a remote. So I’m going to keep using The Control-inater
