ELTAKO is officially joining the Works with Home Assistant program, bringing its relay switches and the first Matter relays to join the program. You may not immediately recognize the name, but ELTAKO’s little blue devices are used for smart building control across Europe.
ELTAKO’s Sales Director for North & West Europe, Kai Sepp, made it clear that this partnership is going to last a while, saying, “We are convinced that the future lies in openness and interoperability – which is why we deliberately embrace partnerships that offer users long-term investment security and maximum flexibility.”
The initial Home Assistant integration will focus on devices from ELTAKO’s Series 64, which use Matter over Wi-Fi. Here are the certified devices you can start using:
- ELTAKO Universal Dimming Actuator EUD64NPN-IPM
- ELTAKO Universal Dimming Actuator EUD62NPN-IPM/110-240V
- ELTAKO Impulse Switch ESR64PF-IPM
- ELTAKO Impulse Switch ESR64NP-IPM
- ELTAKO Shading Actuator ESB64NP-IPM
These devices give you local control over your existing home hardware without having to replace everything. You can automatically dim or switch your lights on and off. The Shading Actuator is particularly interesting because it can automatically control things like continental European shutters to keep your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
What I like is that because these Matter devices are being used with Home Assistant, you get local control for your smart automation. You don’t need to have Wi-Fi with external internet to run your devices.
When a brand joins the Works with Home Assistant program, they’re not just slapping a logo on their packaging. It comes with a long-term commitment to support their devices and keep them working with Home Assistant. The agreement specifies that the devices must have key functionality, operate locally without a cloud requirement, and continue to do so long-term.
ELTAKO has been a powerhouse in the German building trade for over 75 years. The company even made the first impulse switch (step or latching relay), which essentially uses a quick electrical pulse to toggle a circuit on or off. What makes this cool is that it remembers its state until the next signal, meaning it doesn’t need constant power.
ELTAKO now has a full ecosystem of dimmers, sensors, and energy meters that it has made over the years. The company’s products always rely on wired or wireless technologies that avoid cloud dependency, like EnOcean and DALI. True to that philosophy, ELTAKO has also embraced open standards like Matter, which is a smart way to keep our homes open, private, and running locally.
Before you buy any of the products above, keep in mind that they aren’t as easy to set up as many others you have seen. Since ELTAKO’s products are built to professional-grade standards, especially for those wired setups, you might sometimes need a qualified electrician for the installation.
The good news is that ELTAKO has a tech support hotline and a directory of system partners to help you find the installation advice you need. So you can at least have a helping hand when you’re trying to install the devices.
