The FSP MP7 Black is a new dual-tower air cooler in the mid-range price segment and is aimed at users who want good cooling performance with a discreet design and solid workmanship. The manufacturer FSP has previously been better known for its power supply units, but is now also looking to impress in the CPU cooler sector with its MP series.
Packaging and scope of delivery
The box is kept in a simple black and gray and shows a large image of the cooler on the front, supplemented by the model name and the FSP logo. FSP deliberately avoids unnecessary effects or bright color accents, which goes well with the simple design of the cooler itself. The technical data and an overview of the most important features, such as the six heatpipes, the universal socket compatibility and the scope of delivery, can be found on the back. The information is clearly structured and easy to read.
Inside, the cooler is securely embedded in molded cardboard and foam so that nothing slips or is damaged during shipping. The two fans are individually packaged, as are the mounting materials, which are enclosed in small, labeled bags. It is particularly positive that FSP also includes a suitable long screwdriver, which is necessary for installation. This shows that the company has put a lot of thought into practical use.
The FSP MP7 Black comes with a well-assorted accessory package. In addition to the cooler and the two 120-millimeter fans, you get all the mounting material for current Intel and AMD sockets, a small tube of thermal paste and a long screwdriver, which makes mounting much easier. The screws and mounting brackets are neatly packaged and labeled, which makes assembly straightforward. Illustrated instructions guide you through the installation step by step. Overall, the accessories appear complete, well thought-out and of good quality, just as you would expect from a cooler of this class.
Assembly and installation
The installation of the FSP MP7 Black on an AM5 platform is pleasingly uncomplicated. FSP uses the existing AMD mounting system, allowing the factory-fitted backplate on the mainboard to be reused. This saves time and reduces the risk of errors during assembly. First, the original plastic brackets on the mainboard are removed, then the supplied spacers are screwed directly onto the AMD backplate. The two sturdy metal brackets that hold the cooler are then attached. Once the thermal paste has been applied, the cooler can be fitted precisely and tightened evenly using the long screwdriver supplied. The compact construction and slightly offset design leave sufficient space to the RAM slots, which is particularly advantageous for modules with higher heat sinks. The contact pressure is even and the cooler sits securely and stably on the socket after installation. Overall, installation on AM5 is very user-friendly. FSP has opted for a well thought-out, robust solution that enables clean and secure installation without a great deal of effort.
