In recent years, the importance of office work has steadily increased – whether in a traditional company office or in a home office. With the increasing number of working hours spent sitting in front of a screen, awareness of the need for an ergonomic working environment is also growing. A healthy posture and the ability to switch regularly between sitting and standing are now regarded as key factors for productivity and well-being in the workplace.
There is a correspondingly large selection of height-adjustable desks available today in various price ranges, designs and features. But in view of the large number of models, the question arises: is it worth buying the tested model, which is in the upper mid-range with an entry-level price of 849 euros?
With the Magnus Pro XL, the manufacturer has not just brought another height-adjustable desk onto the market, but a well thought-out overall system for ergonomic working and clean cable management. The solid steel desk combines a generous work surface with quiet, precise height adjustment and an integrated power connection directly in the desk leg. The concept also includes the in-house magnetic accessory system, which includes cable holders, documents and a lighting system. But before we get lost in the technical details, let’s unpack the kit together.
Unboxing
I’ve known our UPS driver for many years and since I’ve been publishing articles here at Igorslab, I’ve also seen the tall, nice guy quite regularly. When the Magnus Pro was delivered, the driver stood outside the separate entrance to my office with a big grin on his face and asked if I’d had a good breakfast. After we had taken all the parcels out of the van, my circulation had certainly got going.
Package 1 of 2 starts with a fighting weight of 60 kg.
Package 2 of 2 throws an additional 30kg into the ring.
The additional packages are accessories and optional add-on parts, which I will show and try out on a separate page. First, let’s focus on the table itself. To unpack it, I laid the large package flat on the floor.
Like the Titan Evo chair, the Magnus Pro desk is also very well packed and perfectly protected at all corners.
The downside of the secure shipping packaging is undoubtedly the large amount of packaging material and cardboard, which not only has to be laboriously sorted and disposed of by the end customer, but is also not necessarily good for the environment – recycling or not.
But back to the topic! Once the cover is removed, we are greeted by the assembly instructions and an additional guide. As far as presentation and documentation are concerned, Secretlab is way ahead of the game in my opinion.
The first components are then revealed under another protective layer. It remains to be seen whether all of this really needs to be packaged separately, but the production process may not allow it otherwise.
The last and heaviest component is at the bottom of the box – the massive 1.77m x 0.67m table top of the Magnus Pro XL, which is >2cm thick with a metal casing.
The tabletop already has a number of pre-assembled add-on parts, which makes subsequent assembly really quite simple.
The mounts for the table legs are labeled and the cables for the motors are already laid and marked accordingly.
There is a maintenance flap in the middle for wiring the power supply units and motors.
