Gardens need not be bleak during winter; they can burst with colour, scent, and structure, according to Jonathan Webster, curator of RHS Garden Rosemoor in Devon.

The garden recently unveiled a new, expanded winter section, designed by award-winning gardener Jo Thompson, which features a mix of traditional and modern elements, including grasses, herbaceous plants, and pruned trees.

Amateur gardeners can create their own beautiful winter gardens, Mr Webster explains.

“It’s a balance of evergreen structural plants, whether it’s shrubs or conifers,” he says.

“Having an evergreen hedge acts as a beautiful backdrop to the garden.”
