FRIDAY IS THE FIRST DAY OF THE CUTS, BUT ALREADY TRAVELERS ARE FEELING THE EFFECTS. DELAYS AND CANCELLATIONS AND LARGER AIRPORTS ARE CAUSING THE SAME ISSUES HERE IN OMAHA. MANY WE SPOKE WITH CONSIDER THEMSELVES LUCKY, SAYING THEIR FLIGHTS TO AND FROM EPPLEY WEREN’T AFFECTED, BUT THEY RAN INTO MAJOR ISSUES AT CONNECTING AIRPORTS. SOME TRAVELERS ARE CHOOSING TO THINK OPTIMISTICALLY. ONE MAN COMING FROM OHIO BELIEVES THE FLIGHT CUTS ARE A GOOD SIGN. I THINK THAT IT’S GOING TO FORCE SOME DECISIONS TO BE MADE. I MEAN, WHENEVER YOU PUT PRESSURE ON PEOPLE TO MAKE DECISIONS, I THINK THAT IT COMES FROM A REAL PLACE. SO I THINK AT THE END OF THE DAY, IT’S LIKE THIS IS GOING TO PRODUCE SOMETHING. The Federal Aviation Administration announced, beginning Friday, they’re forcing airlines to cut back flights. They’re hoping to reduce pressure on air traffic controllers during the shut down. Although those flight cuts only directly impact the busiest airports in the nation, travelers here in Omaha are feeling the effects. Delays and cancellations in these larger airports are causing similar issues at Eppley Airfield. Many we spoke with consider themselves lucky, saying their flights to and from Eppley weren’t affected, but they ran into major issues at connecting airports.
Some travelers are choosing to think optimistically; One man coming from Ohio believes the flight cuts are a good sign.
