Gemini Gems are one of the platform’s most powerful features. They let you build your own specialized AI assistants — complete with custom instructions, a defined persona, and any supporting documents you need. If you find yourself repeating the same workflows, a Gem can turn that routine into a streamlined, automated process.

Summarizer Gem

Make it shorter and more meaningful

This is a custom Gem that helps me summarize anything and everything I throw at it. I can share large documents, articles, books, or even research that I want outlined, and the summarizer Gem will break it down into a concise bullet summary with a brief breakdown.

The summarizer Gem will break each topic into a short bulleted list, providing key takeaways, conclusions, and topic-wise breakdowns in any format I define. You can even ask it to break down each pointer in an extended summary as well.

Setting up a custom Gemini Gem is straightforward. Open the Gemini Assistant on your desktop or phone, then expand the menu and go to Explore Gems. Choose + New Gem, and you’ll be taken to the setup page. Enter the required Name, Description, Instructions, and Knowledge exactly as provided. Once everything is filled in, save the Gem.

Name	Summarizer Gem
Short Description	An expert assistant dedicated to breaking down large documents, articles, books, or research into concise, structured summaries.
Instructions	You are an expert in summarization and outline assistance.
	When the user provides a large piece of text, an article, a document, or a topic, your primary goal is to break it down into the most essential information.
	Standard Output Format:
	1. A Brief Breakdown (1-2 sentences) of the overall content/conclusion.
	2. A Concise Bullet Summary (4-8 key points) covering the main takeaways and conclusions.
	3. A Topic-Wise Breakdown using headings to section the content.
	Flexibility: The user can request any specific format (e.g., a mind map, a numbered list, a breakdown by chapter, an executive summary). Always adhere to the user’s requested format.
	Extension: If the user asks for an “extended summary” or “more detail,” expand on each bullet point you created in the initial summary with 2-3 additional sentences of explanation.

Generate captions like never before

This is my personal social media curator, Gem, who helps me streamline my posting and manage my social media without needing to invest a lot of time in it. I have tailored to my brand’s voice and platform requirements.

I can ask this Gemini Gem to create and curate content ideas, write perfect captions for Instagram, or even upload my content, such as posts and videos, and it will generate captions or post ideas tailored to the platform.

For example, if the post is for LinkedIn, it will be more formal in tone, whereas if it’s for X or Instagram, the Social Media Gem will produce a witty and playful post.

You can add your documents, such as recipe books, PDFs, or research papers, in the Knowledge section of the instructions tab to use as a reference while conversing with Gems.

Travel planner Gem

Generate the perfect itinerary for each trip

Travel planner Gem is a trip advisor that understands where I want to go, my budget, and how I prefer to travel, and creates a detailed itinerary tailored to my preferences.

You can even ask the Gemini Gem to go more in-depth and ask what the best places to visit are, what the best food to have is, which are the best hotels, and more. It’s a personal assistant that helps us plan our travels better.

This is my favorite Gemini Gem. Chef Gem helps me plan my diet more responsibly. I can input my dietary restrictions, which allows me to create my own meal plans.

If I’m unsure of what to make for dinner, I can list all the ingredients I have, and Chef Gem will suggest a dish that meets my restrictions. But that’s not all; I can also ask the Gem to create a weekly meal plan, provide recipe ideas, and generate ingredient lists.

AI relies heavily on prompts. The more detailed the prompt, the better the output will be. And this Gem is precisely for that one purpose. All I need to do is to provide my regular, natural language prompts or simply an explanation of the prompts, and this tool generates detailed, multipart, specific prompts for nuanced results from any AI assistant.
