Microsoft silently installed Copilot AI on my Windows 11 PC a while back with an update. My first thought was to uninstall it immediately, as I’ve uninstalled other useless built-in Microsoft apps. However, for some reason, I tried it before doing so.

And I was amazed by how good it was. It was packed with features that helped me become productive and complete my tasks. And now, instead of uninstalling it, I use it every day. There are plenty of reasons why you should, too.

Why did I start using Microsoft Copilot?

At first, it felt like any other vanilla AI Assistant, such as Google’s Gemini or Meta’s AI assistant, that could answer my questions and help me with research.

But the more I used it, the more I realized how deeply it’s been integrated into Windows. Since Copilot uses the latest LLMs as its base within the chatbot, it can perform all the basic AI tasks you can think of.

However, some impressive features make it more of a utility tool when used on a Windows 11 computer.

Copilot actions

Copilot is capable of performing tasks on Windows 11 computers. It can launch apps, update documents, manage files, or even book tickets for you.

All you need to do is provide a proper set of instructions, and your personal assistant will help you with tasks.

For example, if you want to email a file you were working on earlier, say, “Hey Copilot, find me the document I saved earlier.” And Copilot will send the file via email for you. If you don’t have Copilot voice mode enabled, you can even type commands to Copilot chat.

Copilot Vision

If you’ve used Google’s Circle to Search feature on your Android device, you’ll be familiar with the general functionality of Copilot Vision on your Windows PC.

With Circle to Search, you select any specific part of the screen and search for it. Copilot Vision instead lets you share the whole screen with Copilot in the form of a screenshot or contextual help, then describe to Copilot what you want it to do.

Copilot can provide you with links to products, help you solve problems, search for information, or even complete your research for items visible on screen.

Copilot voice

After using the Copilot voice feature, I’m confident that it’s the most natural way to maximize the AI’s benefits. Once you enable Copilot voice, saying “Hey Copilot” will activate the Copilot assistant. It’s not only natural but also amazing compared to other voice assistants.

When triggered, you can communicate with Copilot in your natural language. You can issue commands, ask for help, and perform actions solely with your voice. This creates a new dimension of interaction with Windows.

Natural file search

You can use Copilot AI to find a file or even a photo on your computer. All you need to do is describe to Copilot what you are looking for.

For instance, trigger Copilot and ask, “Find my picture from last year in a red hoodie.” And Copilot will scour through your local files to fetch you the image almost immediately.

Generative edits

Copilot is not limited to productivity apps; it’s also integrated with built-in apps, such as Photos and Media Player. With these integrations, you can perform editing tasks such as removing unwanted elements from photos using AI, making photo and video editing super easy.

To use Copilot in Photos, open the Photos app and click Edit with Copilot, or use Generative Erase from within Copilot. Simply select the area to erase; Copilot processes it and delivers a clean image.

Connectors support

Microsoft lets you use connectors directly in Copilot (like Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Calendar). The plugin support brings automation and information from other services right into your Windows workflow.

To get started with connectors in the Copilot app, select the Connectors option in Copilot, locate your desired Connector, and link it or give it the required permissions. Once done, you can easily interact with your connected app with natural language, such as “Add a task to my calendar” or “Free up my schedule”.

There’s still scope for improvement in Copilot AI

These features are great, but there are still some points that Microsoft has to fix before I can call it a perfect AI. For one, Copilot still lacks enterprise-level capabilities for complex workflows.

During my time using Copilot, I often had to ask it or adjust settings to determine which features were available for free and which required a payment.

One of the free features I liked, besides the ones mentioned, is image generation. However, it’s capped at one image per day, which is annoying.

Elevate your Windows smartness with Copilot AI

Microsoft Copilot came pre-installed, and I nearly uninstalled it until I gave it a chance. I quickly saw it’s far more than a basic AI assistant—it’s deeply integrated with Windows 11, making tasks like sending emails, managing files, and editing photos effortless.

Features like Copilot Vision and voice commands transform my productivity, making my daily work smoother and faster. That said, Copilot isn’t flawless. It needs better enterprise features, more precise distinctions between free and paid tools, and a more user-friendly interface.

Despite these, ongoing updates show promise. If you want an AI that genuinely enhances Windows, giving Copilot a try is worthwhile—it might just change how you use your PC.
