Not surprisingly, economists are finding it hard to estimate the longer-term economic costs of highly destructive weather, since those events vary in type, geographic extent, and intensity. But these exercises areimportant in that (assuming a more enlightened future Administration than Team Trump) that they might influence the scale of relief efforts, and perhaps strengthen the case for climate change containment. This article also finds that better in-region infrastructure can blunt the impact of weather disasters.
