Yves here. While it is good to see a campaign underway to get some action, most important labeling, to deter consumption of ultra-processed foods, I am a bit surprised that private groups, such as the organizations that certify various types of organic products, are not taking the lead. In fact, the way to get the Feds out of bed is to threaten to end-run them.

Admittedly, I am not very familiar with the rise of organic labeling or its cousin, non-GMO designations. But my impression is that most health-oriented shoppers know that “organic” covers a multitude of sins, as in some organic certifications are more stringent than others, with FDA organic standards being just about the weakest.
