It’s been three years since The 1975 released their last album, the critically-acclaimed ‘Being Funny In A Foreign Language‘. But now, it appears fans may not have much longer to wait for new material, as the Mancunian quartet are working on two records.
Frontman Matty Healy shared the news with a fan at Gateshead College yesterday (Tuesday December 2), when he gave a Q&A and lesson to students. He appeared at the college as part of his upcoming Sunday for Sammy charity gig next year, which raises funds for performing artists in the North East.
In the video, a fan asked Healy about the importance of the word ‘DOGS’, which mysteriously flashed at the end of their giant Glastonbury headline performance this year.
In response, Healy replied it was the name of their album, adding: “We made two. It might be one, it might be two… but yeah, we’ve made two albums”.

The news follows the band’s manager Jamie Oborne teasing that The 1975’s new record would be “pretty extraordinary” in the days following up to their Glastonbury headline slot – their only performance of 2025.
He added that the band were “making a record at the moment,”, sharing: “I don’t know when it will come out, but they’re making one.”
“It’s already a pretty extraordinary record”, he said, continuing to say that he has a “constant discourse about it” with the band. “I think they’ve earned the right to take their time. The world’s gonna be listening, so it needs to be right.”
Since then, speculation about a new era has been rife since The 1975 confirmed their return to the live stage, changed their logo and updated their social media profiles.
In 2022, we spoke to The 1975 about their plans for the future in our Cover interview. “I think we could still be the most important band of the ‘20s”, Healy told us.
“I’ve got a prediction that we will be, but we’re starting to get into a semantic argument”, he added, admitting that “Arctic Monkeys are still relevant and making amazing records and are still a band” who could “always be around if they wanted to” (and that he’s “obsessed with bands like Fontaines D.C.”).
*NME *reviewed ‘Being Funny In A Foreign Language’ when it dropped, giving it four stars and declaring them “back to their very best”.
