Let’s be honest. The Los Angeles Dodgers were always going to be the favorites to win the 2026 World Series. With the conclusion of Saturday’s Game 7 in Toronto, there’s confirmation.
The Dodgers are the favorites to win it all on BetMGM after beating the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 in 11 innings to claim a second straight title. The Dodgers have +350 odds to become the first team to win three titles in a row since the New York Yankees did it from 1998-2000. L.A. already became the first back-to-back champions since that Yankees team.
With the way the Dodgers spend money and with a growing list of accomplishments in the last several years, they are the team to beat in baseball until someone beats them. L.A. has made the playoffs for 13 years in a row and reached five of the last nine World Series, winning three of those. It may be boring or uninteresting, but the Dodgers are going to remain popular in the betting market.
The +350 odds still only give L.A. a roughly 22 percent chance of winning the World Series again.
As for the top contenders, the Yankees are second at +800. New York won 94 games this season, made the World Series last year and still have Aaron Judge, so there’s plenty to like about the Yankees before the start of the offseason.
After the Yankees, things get a bit more jumbled. The Philadelphia Phillies (+1200), Seattle Mariners (+1300), Houston Astros (+1400) and New York Mets (+1400) are all close. Only two of those teams made the playoffs, but the Mets continue to spend money so even after a disappointing 83-win season, it’s not hard to project the Mets will be better in 2026. Houston missed the playoffs for the first time since 2016, but it still gets some respect in the betting market for being a consistent contender.
Seattle made the American League Championship Series with Cal Raleigh putting in an MVP-type season. It was the Mariners’ first appearance in the ALCS since 2001, but based on those odds, they are expected to be here to stay.
The heartbroken Blue Jays are not viewed as a major contender to repeat. Toronto has +1800 (18-to-1) odds, putting them behind Boston Red Sox (+1600) and the eighth listed team in the odds board. The Blue Jays won 94 games, tied for most in the AL, but were never viewed that highly in the betting market. Going into next year, Bo Bichette is a free agent, which could drastically change Toronto’s outlook and odds.
The longest odds? Those belong to the Chicago White Sox, Washington Nationals and Colorado Rockies. Those teams had the three worst records this season and are all 500-to-1 to win the World Series.
