TORONTO – If the Los Angeles Dodgers are going to win Saturday night’s Game 7 and repeat as World Series champions, it will likely be with a limited Tyler Glasnow.
Glasnow, who started Game 3 and closed out Friday’s Game 6 win over the Toronto Blue Jays with three pitches, is dealing with discomfort in his side, according to FOX’s Tom Verducci. That, at the very least, could impact Glasnow’s availability for the winner-take-all game. The 32-year-old has never pitched on consecutive days in his professional career.
Glasnow didn’t indicate any issues after Game 6, telling reporters “I feel good so hopefully I can (pitch back to back days).”
The Dodgers will already start Shohei Ohtani on three days’ rest, with the two-way star serving as the team’s most rested starting pitcher after throwing six innings in the team’s Game 4 loss at Dodger Stadium.
Glasnow could still figure into some of the plan, with fellow starters Blake Snell (on two days’ rest after 117 pitches in Game 5) and Yoshinobu Yamamoto (on zero days’ rest after throwing 96 pitches in Game 6) also expected to be available.
It’s not clear how many innings Ohtani will be able to provide, with manager Dave Roberts saying Saturday that will depend on “how he comes out, how he looks, how he’s throwing, how he’s feeling. So I just kind of want to withhold kind of expectation and kind of read and react.”
Glasnow’s status could alter the calculus for a Dodgers team looking to become baseball’s first repeat World Series winners in 25 years.
