Pro-housing candidates won seats across the Puget Sound region, writes Ryan Packer in The Urbanist, paving the way for accelerated housing construction in towns like Tacoma, Redmond, and Newcastle, Washington.
According to Packer, “voters in Redmond have resoundingly re-elected urbanist superstar Melissa Stuart, while at the same time sending Steve Fields and Jeralee Anderson packing.” In Newcastle, progressive candidates “made a full sweep.”
“Which isn’t to say there wasn’t some backsliding: early results in Bainbridge Island and Sammamish point to a big housing backlash. But on the whole, the trends so far look cheer-worthy for urbanists.” Anti-growth advocates won several seats in Bainbridge Island and other towns in Kitsap County.
