Hello everyone, 23 M here, I am a recent graduate from Electrical and Communications Engineering. If I’m going to be honest, I never really payed that much attention and didn’t really study that hard, I just did what I had to do in order to pass. Now that I have graduated, i’m finding it very hard to find a job related to this field, as I didn’t really build good skills throughout my college years.
With that being said, I found a field that I think is very interesting to me and I seem to like alot, and that is Software Engineering (mainly Programming). I really want to get into this field.
I want some opinions on this. Is what i’m doing totally wrong? Just suddenly completely abandoning my college degree field and jumping into programming/Software Engineering all of a sudden? Gra…

I want some opinions on this. Is what i’m doing totally wrong? Just suddenly completely abandoning my college degree field and jumping into programming/Software Engineering all of a sudden? Granted i’m going to have to study hard and build up alot of skills before I even get a job.
The one thing that also disencourages me is that I feel like once I apply for a job (software engineering related), once they see that I graduated from Electrical, it will be a huge disadvantage for me from the get-go, whereas someone with a Computer Engineering degree has a much better chance.
So what do you guys think? Is Electrical and Communications Engineering field the choice to stick with or should I switch to Software Engineering? Thank you for reading all this, and I hope to see different perspectives on this.
