79 Essex Street Door Engraving
A woman stopped to see what I was photographing. She had never noticed it despite living in the area for a long time. She explained the meaning behind it for me. When a Chinese couple marries, this represents the balance of the Phoenix (woman) and Dragon’s (man) energies. Pretty cool find while looking for more obscure finds in Boston that I don’t already have on my list. It’s very close to the Ping On Alley history sign, so it’s very possible that this represents an early Chinese immigrant couple or was a representation for the community.
