I got hired by a school in mid-August and had problems with the visa process so I started on September 15th. I signed a two year contract. From the start there was no training but they were irritated when I didn’t conduct my classes the way they wanted. I was supposed to be teaching IELTS preparation but was never told much about it. I was hired because I have 6 years experience teaching English in the US to native speakers. I was just let go on the 7th of November which is just last Friday. I didn’t take it personal. They set me up to fail I feel like. They claimed the students didn’t understand me because my content was too advanced. This is strange considering everything I presented to my classes were of the style they would receive at any western schoo...
This is strange considering everything I presented to my classes were of the style they would receive at any western school. I don’t speak Chinese so they were probably frustrated with lack of Chinese instruction. A Chinese teacher ended up replacing me which makes no sense. The only way it does make sense is that they hired me to take pictures.
Anyway, during the firing process I asked for flight reimbursement and an extension of my residence visa until I find another job. They agreed to it so quickly that it made me believe they would have paid more. I don’t know the laws but it was within the 2 month probationary period. Wondering if I could have gotten more out or if I handled it right. Looking for some insight on this
