I’ve been learning game dev in unity learn for about 4 months now, I’ve created a few projects of my own, but nothing serious. I feel like I’ve made a ton of progress with my knowledge about programming and game design, it’s all I have been consuming (tutorial hell) I know and understand that I just need to do it because I’ll never feel ready to start, what I don’t understand is how to do that, is there a laid out plan that anyone has? like a to do list. I want to create my own assets (I’m thinking 2D pixel art or low poly stuff) I haven’t touched blender at all, I’ve watched about an hour of the donut tutorial and a ton of YT shorts on blender tips, but nothing hands on. I guess what I’m looking for is what software do I need to get and learn to create everything I need to make a game from the ground up, completely solo?
Also, it would be a great help to know of any discord servers to join to learn from others, I’m so incredibly motivated to get into this and I dream to do it full time so any help is greatly appreciated.
This next part is just a very summarized “my life” It’s not relevant to this post, I just feel like I have to get it out.
I currently work full time as a wildlife technician (I evict raccoons and opossums out of peoples homes) and lately I’ve just had this drive to do what I always thought to be impossible, it all stemmed from listening to an audio book on audible while at work, thinking to myself “this would be a really fun game” I now know that game would be completely out of the realm of possibility for a solo dev, but I led me to really think about doing something like this. I’ve always had a passion for playing video games, and I’ve found after learning about this field is I have a passion for making them too. I want to do it full time. I feel like I would finally be fulfilled in my career life. That’s what I’ve been seeking since I was able to work, first I joined the military thinking it was my my purpose, after that I became a commercial diver, then an insurance agent, to now a wildlife tech. I just feel like software development/game dev is it for me.
This post is all over the place, I know I just have so much pent up about this whole thing.
