Learning to code?

How do you learn to code? I know what I want to do...but I don’t know how to implement it.

For example I want to lock a character’s movement to a grid in 3d. How can I learn what I need to look up to implement this?

There is so many guides, but that guide may not have what I need.

AI now provides a rough shell for the movement but then the code doesn’t work properly? Do I just make random games over and over until I have an arsenal of “tools” in my belt?

It’s a lot of fun when the coding is “moving forward” and i’m making progress but when I stop to look up a guide that may or may not have what i’m looking for is just plain boring.

Any advice?
