Summary and results: I unexpectedly discovered that my reaction time improved after I was prescribed metformin (brand name: Glucophage) for pre-diabetes. Metformin is typically used to lower blood sugar, though it also has other physiological actions. Since researchers have demonstrated a connection between reaction time and cognitive function, my results suggest that metformin may have nootropic effects.
