The Soo Greyhounds goaltending situation got a little crowded yesterday, but isn’t quite as crowded now.
Just over 24 hours after officially acquiring Carter George from the Owen Sound Attack, the team announced the trade of Noah Tegelaar this afternoon.
Tegelaar, 19, has been dealt to the Erie Otters in exchange for a seventh round draft pick in the 2026 OHL Priority Selection.
He is coming off a win last night over the Sudbury Wolves in his last game with the team.
The acquisition of George on Wednesday gave the Greyhounds a third goaltender who was born in 2006.
General manager Kyle Raftis said Wednesday the team was planning to make a move if the fit was right to get down to two goaltenders.
“If there’s going to be a fit somewhere, that would make a lot of sense if we could find that fit,” he said.
“With the news spreading this morning, it spurs a little more action. Ideally, it would be good just to have two. Which two those are going to be, it depends on what needs and wants are from other teams.”
In announcing the deal, Raftis said in a release that the Greyhounds “explored opportunities to best manage the situation for everyone involved as we didn’t want one of them sitting in the crowd for the second half of the season.”
Tegelaar posted a 7-3-1-0 record, a 2.89 goals against average and a save percentage of 0.888 in 11 games this season.
“Noah is a big, athletic goalie,” Erie director of hockey operations Scott Grieve said in a release, adding that he “helps bolster our goaltending depth.”
