Beloved wife of the late Ross, loving mother of Tim (Sirpa), Heather (Ben) and Nancy (Brian). Gram to Katrina (Meredith), Marita, Nuria and Alida and devoted sister to Bill (Wilda) and Ruth (late Dave).
Reta passed peacefully surrounded by her children.
Reta was born and raised in Mount Forest, Ontario and met the true love of her life teaching in a two room schoolhouse in Neustadt. She and Ross began a new chapter in their life moving north away from friends and family. They spent several years in Kirkland Lake before landing in Sault Ste Marie where she lived in her home for the next 67 years.
Reta lived a long and beautiful life despite losing Ross in 1980. She was the ultimate optimist who believed in counting her blessings every single day. She had a deep and abiding faith and truly believed that God works his miracles in mysterious ways. She gave freely of her time to her church and to the people of Sault Ste. Marie. Highway 638 to McCarrel Lake was her balm and salvation, and her garden was her refuge.
She will be greatly missed by her many friends and family but will always be remembered for her deep compassion. The family is very appreciative of all those who helped mom continue to flourish in her final years.
Friends and family are welcome to gather on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East, 705-759-2522) for a service officiated by Rev.
