The electrical appetite of data centers is almost insatiable. A single server rack will require up to 1,000 kilowatts, or 1 megawatt, in the near future. Why are such racks necessary, and what will they be capable of?

During Schneider Electric’s Innovation Summit, one slide in particular caught our eye. It showed just how quickly data centres are reaching the heights of 1,000 Kilowatts. One roadmap places the industry’s AI platforms at this 1 MW level by 2028.

Data centers already require a lot of electricity, but part of that demand is based on inefficiency.
