Today we’re making it easy for you to explore that growing ecosystem of agents. Zed’s new Agent Server Extensions let you install an agent with one click and try it out right away.

We already have three Agent Server Extensions you can try out right now:
You can install any of these by opening the Extensions panel and searching for them. As more Extensions get released, you can see them all at once by filtering extensions by Agent Servers in the Extensions panel—or by viewing all the Agent Server Extensions on our website.
What Agent Extensions Do
When you install one of these extensions, what you get is:
- A menu item in Zed for starting a new thread with that agent
- An automatic download of the agent’s implementation, if necessary
Agents typically require some form of authentication, so as soon as you start a new thread, you can expect to go through whatever process that agent has for logging in.
Once you’ve done that, you’re up and running with the new agent!
Add Your Agent to Zed
If you’re developing an ACP-compatible agent, we’d like to help you reach Zed users! These new Agent Server Extensions make distribution straightforward: once the extension is published, anyone using Zed can install the agent with one click.
If you’d like to create one of these extensions, the steps are quick:
- Create an
extension.tomlwhich specifies things like the extension name and where to find its assets - Add a SVG icon
- Publish it using the normal process
