1. Introduction

Volumetric capture technology has evolved significantly, enabling the creation of realistic digital doubles and immersive virtual environments. However, maintaining accurate and consistent lighting across a multitude of cameras during dynamic scenes poses a considerable challenge. Variations in lighting intensities and spectral distributions due to moving light sources and reflections on surfaces lead to inconsistencies in the final reconstructed volume, requiring extensive and time-consuming post-processing. This paper introduces a real-time dynamic lighting calibration system based on Bayesian Optimization and spectral decomposition, designed to mitigate these inconsistencies and drastically reduce post-production intervention. Our solution is grounded in established techniques within physics-based rendering and advanced optimization, ensuring immediate commercial relevance.

2. Theoretical Foundation

Our approach builds upon the principles of Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Functions (BRDFs) and spectral rendering. A BRDF mathematically describes how light is reflected from a surface, accounting for both incoming and outgoing light directions. We model the lighting conditions in the capture volume as a combination of direct illumination from known light sources (controlled LED arrays) and indirect illumination resulting from reflections within the scene.

The core challenge lies in accurately modeling the spectral distribution of the reflected light, which varies significantly with the material properties of the captured objects and the position of the cameras. To address this, we employ spectral decomposition, representing the reflected light as a linear combination of basis functions derived from empirical measurements or theoretical models of surface reflectance.
