True for Barr, but it was written with the understanding of without Barr 1.
Because PSU doesn’t want to wrestle tough duals. Cupcake schedule except for B1G opponents. 1.
125- Bouzakis vs. Poulin 3-0 tOSU 133- Davino vs. E. Frost 6-0 tOSU 141- Mendez vs. Echemendia 9-0 tOSU 149- Stiles vs. J. Frost 12-0 tOSU 157- Cannon vs. Zerban 15-0 tOSU 165- Gallagher vs. Euton 18-0 tOSU 174- Kharchla vs. Gaitan 21-0 tOSU 184- Fishback vs. Dean 24-0 tOSU 197- Geog vs. Elam 24-3 tOSU Hvy- Feldman vs. Bastida 24-6 tOSU Despite the score looking lopsided, I think the individual bouts will be entertaining with zero bonus point matches predicted! 1.
I’ll take the other side of Pinnacle’s analysis. Probable is for statisticians, Possible is for Fans and reality is in-between. 125- LL is more favored, but he seems to lose from time to time when his offense suffers. Bouzakis in his 3 and 4 point stance will limit LL’s offense and if it’s a toss up, give me the strength advantage of Bouzakis. Wrestlestat agrees. 3-0 133 - Blaze from last year was lights out on defense and hesitant to open up his offense, this year he seems much more offensive and putting up points. Same can be said of Davino, he is much more putting the pace and getting the techs. As much as I’d like to pick Davino, I have to lean Blaze. 3-3 141 - Mendez is likely to bonus anyone PSU sends out. Question is does he get a major, tech or pin. I’m going with a major due to stalling strategy. 7-3 149 - SVN is the real deal and has an incredible gas tank. Similar question, can Stiles keep it to a decision and avoid the major. I’m going to say yes. 7-6 157 - Common opponent in Wyoming’s Jared Hill. Cannon won 18-3, Duke won via pin when the score was 8-2 I believe. I think Cannon wins a close one here but it could easily go the other way. 10-6 165 - Can Paddy avoid the major, MM at home knowing that he needs to get bonus and he delievers. 10-10 174 - Kharchla could, but Haines is just more consistent and clutch right now. 10-13 184 - I’m going out on a limb, but PSU Rocco looks tentative and is not lighting up the scoreboard. tOSU Fishback looks to be scoring and had some really good matches against Ferrari and MacEnelly. I’m going Fishback for the upset. 13-13 197 - Assuming Barr is back and healthy as we would be getting close to the end of the season. Barr by a major. 13-17 285 - Feldman trying for the major cannot get it done. PSU celebrates crushing the dreams of the Buckeyes. 16-17 1.
Here is the real test: Wrestlestat has PSU 28 NC State 6; but it has Duke losing, I’ll revise to PSU 31 NC State 3. If tOSU can put up better numbers than 31-3, the the bucks are in contention. 1.
It’s a little bit hope and carry over from beating Ferrari. 1.
Good prediction, agree with the projections, but I’m really interested to see if tOSU can show that they are jumping levels as a team. For tOSU to really be worthy of NCAA title consideration, this is the test that they need. Can they get bonus points at more weights and can the upper weights take ground at 165, 174, 197 and 285. Barring any injuries, tOSU’s front 5 should score real points at nationals, it realy comes down to how well can the back 5 do. 1.
Good poll - thanks for posting! 157 and 184 top 6 can win at 157 and top 4 at 184. 125 is wide open because it’s 125 not because of depth. 1.
Good summary and agree with your analysis. Hope he MS goes to the scuffle, I believe Okie St is scheduled for the scuffle and would love to see Shapiro v Robideau. Has Meyer wrestled Robideau or Duke in the past? 1.
Cornell Kevin - thanks for the work on this. Now that the season is kicking off, any updates? I remember going last year and it was just a 1-day event for 2 groups of teams. Are you saying this time the format is different? 1.
Buckeyes shock the world! 125: Bouzakis 133: Davino 141: Mendez 149: Larkin 157: Cannon 165: Messenbrink 174: Levi 184: Sinclair 197: Barr 285: Feldman 1.
133 - returning champ with Byrd, Blaze is the next most likely to win, followed by Davino. I think the rest are dependent on a real setback from the top 3. Maybe you throw in Larkin and Frost but seems a bit early. Likely Contenders: (3) Byrd, Blaze and Davino 157 - returning champ with Taylor, but he already has 2 losses. Could have an injury or something that we don’t know about. He deserves consideration and will likely be where he needs to be in March. Next contenders are freshman phenoms Robideau and Duke. Duke has several freestyle wins over Robideau, so I give him the nod. Beyond that, Cannon and Shapiro look to be the biggest threat to win. The remainders seem like strong AAs but unlikely title threats. Likely contenders: (5) Duke, Robideau, Cannon, Shapiro, Taylor 285 - no returning champ, Bastida returning from medical redshirt, Feldman improved, Ferrari up a weight and new school, Kueter with hip trouble and then a bunch of good AA guys but unlikely title threats. I’m curious to see how Braxton Amos wrestles at heavyweight deep into the season - I think he will finish top 4. Likely contenders: (4) Bastida, Ferrari, Feldman, Amos All that being said, I think 125 is the most wide open weight class: 125 - returning champ with Robinson who already has a loss, Lilledahl has a loss, Bouzakis has a loss, Spratley has 2 losses, Volk has a loss, Ventreska has 2 losses Likely contenders: (8) Robinson, Lilledahl, Bouzakis, Spratley, Volk, Ventresca and I’ll through in two wild cards with Stevo Poulin and Marc-Anthony McGowan 1.
Helps when he isn’t cutting so bad that he had to be hospitalized! 1.
No one wins a national title easily!
