Today, Friday, January 30, activists are calling for a nationwide shutdown against immigration enforcement and ICE.

Following aggressive ICE-enforcement tactics in Minnesota, organizers are advocating for a day of “no work, no school, and no shopping," specifically protesting against the Trump administration and its immigration crackdown.

The blackout follows a string of deaths connected to ICE across the nation, including those of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minnesota, Keith Porter in Los Angeles, Silverio Villegas González in Chicago and Geraldo Lunas Campos in Texas.

Businesses around New York are getting involved, with several restaurants participating in the strike by completely closing down business for the day. Eateries who cannot afford to shut down for the day are donating a portion of their profits to a variety of causes, including immigration reform and community building.

Here is a list of participating businesses:

Businesses that are closed:

• Athena Keke’s: The business will be closed on Friday. A portion of sales for the rest of the week will go to New York Immigration Coalition.
• Bar Snack: The business will be closed on Friday.
• Carnitas Ramirez: The business will be closed on Friday.
• Dolly’s Coffee Shop: The business will be closed on Friday.
• Fan Fan Doughnuts: The business will be closed on Friday.
• Forsyth Fire Escape: The business will be closed on Friday.
• Ha’s Snack Bar: The business will be closed on Friday.
• Land to Sea: The business will be closed on Friday. On Saturday, the business will be fundraising for the Immigration Defense Project and Hands Off NYC.
• Comfortland: The Lower East Side location will be closed.
• The Pastry Box: The business will be closed on Friday.
• Prima: The business will be closed on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, the bar will be raising money for an undisclosed preschool patrol program.
• Lai Rai: The business will be closed on Friday.
• Mijo: The business will be closed on Friday.
• Toad Style: The business will be closed for service and not available for delivery. However, the restaurant will be providing a free lunch of chili and grilled cheese from noon to 2pm.
• Topos Bookstore: Both Ridgewood locations will be closed on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, the bookstores will be donating 20% of proceeds to the Immigrant Defense Project and Comunidad Primero.
• Taqueria Ramirez: The business will be closed on Friday.

Businesses that are open:

• A Ridgewood Fundraiser: Several Ridgewood businesses (Honey Moon Coffee Shop, Salty Lunch Lady’s Little Luncheonette, Mama Yoshi, Mini Mart, Lise and Vito, Luters, Topos Decades Pizza, I Like Food and Salvos) will remain open on Friday, but will be donating proceeds to Comunidad Primero and the Immigration Defense Project.
• Agi’s Counter: The business will remain open on Friday, but will be donating 15% of our profits to the Immigrant Defense Project.
• BEM books & more: The business will remain open on Friday, but will be offering free tea and coffee.
• Bonnie’s: The business will remain open on Friday, but will be donating 25% of today’s beverage sales proc to the Immigrant Defense Project.
• Brooklyn Granary & Mill: The business is hosting a community bake sale where all items are free with a suggested donation to the Community Aid Network of Minneapolis.
• C’Mon Everybody: The business will remain open on Friday, but will be donating 20% of their net profits from January 30th to February 2nd to New York Immigration Coalition and Refuge America.
• Comfortland: The Astoria location will be open and providing free meals from 10am-6pm.
• Eavesdrop: The business will remain open on Friday, but will be donating 100% of our profits to the New York Immigration Coalition.
• Elbow Bread: The business will remain open on Friday, but the owner will be donating 25% of her income to New York Immigration Coalition.
• Hinterlands Bar: The business will remain open on Friday, but will be donating 10% of proceeds to the Immigration Defense Project.
• I Cavallini: The business will remain open on Friday, but will be donating 100% of proceeds to organizations supporting immigrant communities.
• King Tai Bar: The business will remain open on Friday, but will be donating $3 for every house cocktail to the ACLU
• L’Appartement 4F: The businesses will remain open on Friday, but will be donating 10% of sales from today to the New York Immigration Coalition
• Little Grenjai: The business will remain open on Friday, but will be donating 25% of profits from wine/beer/sake sales to New York Immigrant Freedom Fund.
• Lori Jayne: The business will remain open on Friday, but will be donating 15% of sales to an undisclosed organization.
• Gertie: The business will remain open on Friday, but will be donating $1 from every beverage sold today to the Immigrant Defense Project.
• Montague Diner: The business will remain open on Friday, but will be donating 100% of the days profits to the Immigration Defense Project.
• Museum of Food and Drink (MOFAD): The business will remain open with free admission for those who are striking.
• Rude Mouth: The business will remain open, but will be donating 20% of proceeds to the Immigrant Defense Project and Comunidad Primero.
• Son Del North: Both businesses will remain open on Friday and will be donating 10% of sales to the ACLU.
• Strange Delight: The business will remain open on Friday, but will be donating all net proceeds or 10% of sales, whichever is higher, from today and tomorrow to Minnesota mutual aid funds and organizations providing immigration and legal support services to targeted communities.
• Whoopsie Daisy: The business will remain open on Friday, but will be donating $1 of every item purchased to the Immigration Defense Project.
• Yellow Rose and Rose Marie: Both businesses will remain open on Friday and will be donating a portion of proceeds to The Immigrant Defense Project.
• TALEA Beer Co.: All locations will remain open on Friday, but will be donating 100% of proceeds to Immigrant Justice Corps and Make the Road.
