AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 CPU Features Dual 3D V-Cache Dies With 192 MB Cache, & This Might Be The First Benchmarks Leak
We know that AMD is preparing a refresh of its existing Ryzen 9000X3D "3D V-Cache" CPU lineup with boosted clocks and higher cache configurations. The Ryzen 7 9850X3D is no mystery, having appeared within benchmarks, retail listings, and even confirmed by AMD itself. However, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 is still a mystery, not in terms of specs, but in terms of the launch plans, since the chip hasn’t seen any retail listing yet.
Despite that, it looks like we have our first alleged benchmark for the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, which lists up to 192 MB of 3D V-Cache, but as we have come to know, the PassMark listings can be faked, so we still recommend treating this benchmark leak with a grain of salt. There’s also a Geekbench bench leak which also showcases the new 3D V-Cache chip. So with that said, let’s start with the specs of the 9950X3D2.
The AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 will become a third 16-core and 32-thread variant, and should be positioned as the flagship Zen 5 "Ryzen 9000" chip. This chip is said to operate at 200W TDP and will feature 192 MB of cache. The chip will retain the same base clock of 4.30 GHz, but the boost clock will be toned down to 5.6 GHz, a 100 MHz decrease versus the 9950X3D, & the 9950X.

For comparison, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D offers 16 cores, 32 threads, with a boost clock of up to 5.7 GHz at 170W and packs a total of 128 MB of L3 cache. This is achieved using one X3D-boosted CCD with 64 MB 3D V-Cache and 32 MB on-CCD cache, while the second CCD comes with the standard on-CCD 32 MB cache. But the newer 16-core variant is said to pack an additional 64 MB on the second die too, reaching up to 192 MB of cache, the highest ever on a mainstream desktop CPU.

In terms of performance, the PassMark benchmark shows the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 being on par with the Ryzen 9 9950X3D. Since this is a synthetic workload which showcases the ST/MT capabilities, & not the gaming performance, the scores are to be expected since the 9950X3D2 should be clocked 100 MHz lower. As such, the main difference won’t be the app performance but rather gaming performance, and that too in certain cases where games can utilize the extra cache. There might be some applications that will take advantage of the doubled 3D V-Cache, but overall, the chip should perform similarly to the 9950X3D in the lesser cache-intensive workloads.

The Geekbench performance is also in the same ballpark as the other two 16-core "Zen 5" Ryzen chips. The benchmark lists the 192 MB cache as 96 MB x 2 which should be correct, and the clock speeds are reported at 4.30 GHz base and 5.6 GHz boost. The CPU was tested on a B850 motherboard from GALAX which featured 96 GB of DDR5-4800 memory, so we can expect better performance on a system with a DDR5-6000 kit or higher.
