We are taking steps to improve access to the OPF Wiki moving forward.
The OPF Wiki is a wild and wonderful place. It holds community and project-driven initiatives that provide practical examples and support for digital preservation. Access to the OPF Wiki has been limited for some time. This has primarily been due to competing technical issues and its complicated history of ownership. The OPF Wiki is a wild and wonderful place. It holds community and project-driven initiatives that provide practical examples and support for digital preservation. Access to the OPF Wiki has been limited for some time. This has primarily been due to competing technical issues and its complicated history of ownership. We are now implementing a plan to restore access to these vital resources for the digital preservation community.
The Wiki reflects the development of our sector. The OPF has provided the technical infrastructure to host these Wiki services since their conception. As some of you have experienced, a significant portion of these resources have been difficult to access for some time. Given that much of the content represents the collaborative and shared history of the OPF’s community, and as an organisation dedicated to archiving and preservation, we take this task seriously.
We now have a clear and realistic plan to restore access to much of the content. For example, historical versions are available of beloved resources such as the Catalogue of Policy Elements, several real-world examples of preservation datasets, and issues and solutions. In the coming weeks, we will be working through a careful recovery process to bring these community-built materials back online, stabilise new systems to support them, and ensure they remain available. Where necessary, we will also redirect to the Internet Archive for the more static areas of the Wiki.
For other areas, such as the File Format Risk Registry (a reference guide to file format-specific risks), we are currently investigating the most suitable solutions to make it updatable again. We are acting with care to ensure the contents of the Wiki are restored as completely as possible, which will mean some areas will return sooner than others.
We are grateful for the contributions of everyone who helped build these resources, and we are committed to honouring that work. We will continue to share updates as we make progress.
