Not a day goes by that I don’t run into some weird piece of tech on my social media pages, which immediately becomes my latest hyperfixation. As for my most recent whacky tech obsession? A kids’ sticker maker.

I know what you’re thinking: Why would someone in their 20s be so obsessed with a silly little kids’ toy? Well, if you’ve never seen Stickerbox before, you wouldn’t understand where I’m coming from.

Designed for kids, but adults are having all the fun

Stickerbox was built with one goal in mind, and that’s to get kids away from mobile and TV screens. Its creators, Arun Gupta and Bob Whitney, asked themselves one question: What if AI could fuel kids’ imagination instead of replacing it? Then came Stickerbox.

In short, Stickerbox takes your voice prompts and descriptions to generate a unique sticker, which you can then color in, peel, and stick wherever you like – and the creative possibilities are pretty much endless. To get started, all you have to do is connect it to WiFi, download the companion app, and then scan a QR code to pair. Then, you’re free to create stickers galore by holding down the button.

When it comes to your ideas, the sillier the better, I’d say, and I’ve seen users on TikTok ask for the most obscure stickers. For example, I’ve seen videos of people using prompts such as ‘a chicken in outer space’, and even ‘Jesus playing basketball with elf shoes on’ – and it actually worked. It also works when you use famous names as prompts, like Bob Marley or this Martha Stewart example below, which I found particularly entertaining.

Inside the small 3.75-inch box is a clever computer, one that uses Ideogram and the Flux generative AI model – both developed by Stable Diffusion. Together, the two take your voice prompts, understand them, and produce an accurate image of what you’re describing.

Though you can get as creative as you want, Stickerbox does draw the line when certain phrases are used, as it’s KidSAFE COPPA-certified. This includes anything that’s trademarked (for example, Disney), and anything that involves violence, profanity, and explicit content.

I’ve been admiring Stickerbox from afar for quite some time, and despite its kid-friendly design, adults have swarmed the sticker maker like a moth to a flame. ‘But it’s just a sticker maker,’ I hear you say, and yes, it is, but it’s a sticker maker with a very big brain, and one that I can’t wait to get my hands on.
