For one day every June, South Africa’s searing racial inequality seems to melt away at Comrades raceIn the early morning dark, thousands of runners waited, jostling with anticipation. South Africa’s national anthem rang out. Then the haunting swell of Shosholoza, first sung by Zimbabwean migrant workers in South Africa’s goldmines. Finally, that unmistakable, spine-tingling piano: Chariots of Fire.Runners gather before the start of the marathon Read more ›

As part of a project I am currently working on at Bootlin, I had the opportunity to attend the Linux Storage, Filesystem, Memory Management and BPF conference (enough of a mouthful to shorten to LSFMMBPF !) earlier in May. The conference took place this year in Zagreb from May 4th to May 6th, and was a fantastic opportunity to meet people working in deep technical topics in the Linux kernel. Read more ›

I agree, and the lack of empathy around this area is sad. If you're developing an app, it is better to fall into the pit of success by using a UI framework that already has accessibility baked in. Any project that uses Dear Imgui for end-user applications has already made a bad design choice. AccessKit ( seems to be a positive step forward, with some UI frameworks implemented (including immediate mode egui). Read more ›

Small quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) studies are difficult when close molecular analogues have different activity labels. This paper asks whether a quantum kernel can add similarity information to a Morgan/Tanimoto fingerprint model, and which molecules account for the change. QBioFusion-QSAR uses quantum multiple kernel learning (QMKL): a support vector machine combines a Morgan/Tanimoto kernel with a quantum fidelity ker... Read more ›

My book club recently finished reading Milton’s Paradise Lost. I did a fair bit of reading/listening/watching additional material, and took a substantial amount of notes. Because I have no intention of collecting them into anything resembling an essay, or even a book review, but do think they are worth sharing; and because I was recently inspired by Dave’s Virtual Box of Cards I implemented some very basic wiki functionality for this site under a new Notes section. The Paradise Lost notes spe... Read more ›

I used the kernel vmlinux header file(6.10 version) from pwru to compile, but my actual kernel version was 6.6. the iov field name in iov_iter become an internal anonymous structure __iov file on kernel changing(6.10->6.6), so the led to that if I extracted and compiled according to the field name of version 6.10, I could not run in my current system, and vice versa. I would like to ask what is a more formal or official solution to deal with this change in kernel structure? My current solutio... Read more ›
