We now have yet another reason to love Dr. Bronner’s soap company, home of the "Original All-One Magic Soap" and much more — the family-owned company is now a Certified Living Wage employer. The company explains that being Living Wage Certified this means that "every member of our staff earns a wage that ensures a decent quality of life, not just the minimum it takes to survive."
While Dr. Bronner’s has long paid a living wage, now they have the "important certification to highlight it." The certification comes from "Living Wage For Us," an organization that uses the International Labour Organization’s definition of a living wage, which takes into account geographical context: "The amount of pay that allows workers and their families to afford a decent standard of living." Living Wage For Us uses costs of food, housing, healthcare, education, transportation, clothing, and more to calculate what constitutes a living wage in any given area.
As the company shared in a recent Facebook post, as of January 2026, the starting hourly wage for a full-time Dr. Bronner’s employee is $29.11, which is 72% higher than California’s minimum wage in 2026. They explain how they are able to afford these higher wages:
In part, because we have a 5-to-1 cap on executive salaries, meaning Dr. Bronner’s executive salaries are not more than 5x that of the lowest-wage, fully-vested employees — a practice that was instituted more than 20 years ago.
I’ve been a huge fan of Dr. Bronner’s since I discovered the wonder of that original invigorating peppermint soapy goodness back in college, and still use it to this day. The company keeps proving that it’s a great one — for example, they offer ketamine therapy as part of their employee health coverage, and they’ve passionately expressed their opposition to the current reign of terror sweeping across the country. They recently demanded that ICE stop its attack on American cities and called on Congress to "defund all Federal surge forces" in the wake of Renee Nicole Good’s murder, stating:
This moment demands more than quiet concern. We need a chorus of voices saying enough is enough to compel lawmakers and the public to check an administration that is out of control. Ours is just one voice, but we won’t be silent.
They also spoke out after ICE killed Alex Pretti, stating that "ICE and this administration are out of control" and, further:
This State-sanctioned terror and sickening lies to cover it up cannot become the norm. Neither Alex nor Renee Good attacked ICE. The Trump administration’s reprehensible and disgusting spin is misleading millions of people and distorting reality. This is a travesty of justice that cannot go ignored.
And now, they’re Living Wage Certified. Keep up the great work, Dr. Bronner’s!
