Lesser known, but still very good, is Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders, where a hack news reporter is the only hope for a humanity dumbed down to single-digit IQs by an alien stupidity machine.
Then there’s fantasy adventure Loom, which has striking art that still looks gorgeous to this day.
LucasArts wasn’t afraid to mine its big hitters to create games, with plenty of classic Star Wars titles and, in the point-and-click genre, Indiana Jones finding a comfortable home. An adaptation of The Last Crusade, and a new story, The Fate of Atlantis, captured the swashbuckling style of the grizzled adventurer.
A personal favorite is the giddy, gonzo adventures of Sam & Max Hit the Road. Weird, funny, and a visual feast, it’s like playing a cartoon series.
Finally, while they are slightly more expensive to purchase right now (under three pounds each!), it would be unwise to omit the Monkey Island series when discussing LucasArts’ heritage, wouldn’t it?
The Secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2, The Curse of Monkey Island, and Escape from Monkey Island are all available for a pittance. So why not visit/revisit the wonderful world of Guybrush Threepwood?
You’ll have to be quick, though, as the sale prices end later today.
