Email Digests

By the end of this page, you'll understand what's in your weekly digest, how to customize the content, and how to troubleshoot if you're not receiving it.

What's in Your Digest

Every week, Scour emails you the top posts matching your interests. The digest includes:

  • Up to 10 posts from the past week, ranked by relevance to your interests
  • Interest tags showing why each post was included
  • Reaction buttons so you can react to posts directly from the email
  • Interest recommendations at the bottom, so you can expand what Scour looks for

The content mirrors what you'd see in your Week view on the site. If your feed looks good there, your digest will too.

When Digests Are Sent

Digests go out every Friday at 10:00 UTC.

You can't change the timing yet, but daily digests are on the roadmap.

Not Receiving Digests?

If you're not getting your weekly digest, work through these checks:

1. Check Your Spam Folder

Digests come from digest@scour.ing. Check your spam or promotions folder and mark it as "not spam" if you find it there.

2. Make Sure You Have Interests

Digests require at least one active interest. Without interests, Scour doesn't know what content to include. Add some interests if you haven't already.

3. Check Your Email Settings

Email digests are enabled by default, but verify yours is on:

Sign in to check your email settings.

4. Still Nothing?

If everything above looks right and you're still not receiving digests, email evan@scour.ing and I'll look into what's going on.

Getting Better Content in Your Digest

Since your digest reflects your Week view, improving your feed improves your digest. Here are the main levers:

Add or Refine Your Interests

The more specific your interests, the more relevant your digest. See Interests for tips on crafting effective ones. Each digest also includes interest recommendations at the bottom. You can accept them directly from the email.

Toggle Between Subscribed and All Feeds

By default, Scour searches across all feeds in its database. If you've subscribed to specific feeds, you can switch to show only content from those.

However, if you're subscribed to very few feeds, your digest might be sparse. In that case, switching to "All" feeds gives you more content to choose from:

Sign in to change your feed defaults.

For more on how this setting works, see Feeds.

Filter Out Unwanted Content

You can also improve your digest by filtering out content you don't want:

  • Block domains: If certain sites keep appearing that you don't care about
  • Hide paywalled content: If you are seeing content from sites with paywalls where you don't have a subscription

See Content Filtering for details on both.

Reacting from the Email

Each post in your digest has reaction buttons (love, like, dislike). Clicking them works, even from email. Your reactions help Scour generate better interest recommendations. For more on how reactions work, see Reactions.

Disabling Digests

If you'd rather not receive the weekly email, you can turn it off in your settings or click the "Manage email preferences" link at the bottom of any digest.
